Henry C. McGavran collection of Beaubien family papers, 1852-1914.

Summary: Collection consists primarily of copies and some translations of the Beaubien Family papers (1827-1914). Family papers concern Charles H. Beaubien, his daughter Petra Beaubien Abreu, and his son-in-law Jesus G. Abreu. Papers include one marriage dispensation granted to Charles H. Beaubien and Maria Paula Lovato (1827), one business letter from Charles to Manuel Alvarez discussing Padre Martinez (1856), a contract to manage a ranch in Rayado, New Mexico involving Jesus G. Abreu (1860), one liquor license issued to Jesus (1863), and Petra Beaubien Abreu's obituary (1914). Also includes photocopies of the Sibley Survey field notes concerning the portion of the Santa Fe Trail between Independence, Missouri and Taos, New Mexico. The Sibley Survey was conducted by George C. Sibley.

Antonio José Martínez was born in Abiquiu, N.M. in 1793. His family moved to Taos in 1804. Upon completion of his studies at the seminary in Durango, Mexico he returned to N.M., first to Tomé, then Abiquiu and finally Taos. Martínez, with others was responsible for bringing the first printing press to Santa Fe in 1834.
